Sixes lacrosse is a high-octane, streamlined version of the sport that blends the most thrilling aspects of traditional lacrosse. Known for its rapid pace and open play style, Sixes features swift transitions and constant, high-scoring action.
Introduced in 2018, Sixes was designed to drive global expansion, enhance accessibility, and boost competitiveness, all while cutting down on the costs and complexities associated with playing and organizing the game. It represents the future evolution of lacrosse.
Sixes lacrosse represents a natural evolution of the sport, blending elements of both field and box lacrosse. It offers a welcoming opportunity for current players and provides a simpler entry point for newcomers.
By removing specialty positions, Sixes helps to reduce competitive imbalances. It also maintains a level of physicality that appeals to all players, regardless of gender, and requires less equipment and fewer venue resources.
The discipline quickly gained global popularity, with leagues and events emerging at various levels, including the PLL. Sixes was showcased in The World Games 2022 for both men and women and is making its debut in the 2028 Summer Olympics. The first World Lacrosse Sixes Championships for men and women are set to occur in 2026.
